Political Science Major, Pre-Law Concentration

Majoring in political science is great preparation for law school. In fact, political science is still the most common major for students currently enrolled in US law schools. The Department of Political Science at Mercyhurst College takes great pride in its pre-law curriculum, which incorporates political science, sociology, psychology, and philosophy courses. Political science students have the opportunity to complete nearly one dozen different courses related legal theory and practice, and complete internships with a wide variety of organizations and law firms. Required and elective courses are chosen with the help of the student's advisor, who customizes a curriculum that fits the student's interests and professional goals.
Most students who declare a pre-law concentration have the opportunity to take a wide range of courses related to law including (1) Constitutional Law, (2) Civil Liberties, (3) Psychology and the Law, (4) Environmental Law, (5) Business Law, (6) Legal Research and Writing, (7) Sociology of the Law, (8) Introduction to Logic, and (9) Philosophy of the Law.
